More than a drink
Ralph Fiennes character in The Menu asked, or told, his (unfortunate) guests to ‘taste’ not ‘eat’ his food.
Now, this character was not exactly a role model, but of course what he said has truth in it – for me eating and drinking is much more than just that – it needs to be all about the atmosphere, where you drink, who you drink with, what you drink from and discovering more about what you are drinking.
I am spent all my career in food and drink and there’s something about its every changing nature that keep me interested. I’m incredibly lucky to be involved in this sphere – there’s always something new to discover and explore.
I think our family skiing holidays triggered my fascination with all drinks bitter. Two things stand out from skiing in the Dolomite – that in the local Spar in Santa Christina there is a 2 metre display of bitter drinks – vermouth, aperitifs and amaros – where are these in the UK? The other is all the shaped bottles behind the counter in any café or bar – often dark coloured liquid. These are what triggered my enthusiasm.
So, this and a lot of reading and tasting over lockdowns made me think about how I can spread the word of all drinks bitter. This is my attempt to share the journey of these bitter and very curious drinks.
I hope you enjoy the website and Instagram feeds – I will see the direction of where we take this base on feedback – so please get in touch to let me know your views.
